Townsend Community Habitats

One of our on going projects with the Delaware Nature Society and Town of Townsend is the certification of the Town of Townsend as a Community Wildlife Habitat. Community Wildlife Habitats is a National Wildlife Federation program that recognizes a community’s conservation and stewardship efforts to create a place where people and wildlife can flourish together through habitat and water quality improvements. By participating in this program, Townsend will be the first town in Delaware to be certified as a Community Habitat. As part of this project, the Association continues to help install Backyard Habitats, make the upcoming Town Park an environmentally friendly oasis, create a residential demonstration rain garden and educate residents on composting and rain barrels. The ARA has held workshops on building rain barrels and has worked with Townsend Elementary School to build a Schoolyard Habitat.  We are still working to reach this goal so if you would like to help, let us know!"
